How Many Units of BOTOX® Do I Need?

Study upon study shows that BOTOX® Cosmetic is a safe and effective way to prevent wrinkles—as long as you are in the hands of a skilled provider. BOTOX injections contain a form of botulinum toxin that relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles to form. But it takes an experienced injector to know precisely how many units of BOTOX to administer to achieve natural yet noticeable results.

Are you curious about how we calculate how many BOTOX units per area to help you look younger without leaving you looking frozen? While each patient and treatment area is unique, let’s take a closer look at how much BOTOX is usually necessary to treat different areas of the face, such as the forehead, 11 lines, and crow’s feet.

How many units of BOTOX for forehead?

Horizontal forehead lines are among the first visible signs of aging, making the forehead one of the most popular BOTOX treatment areas. We eventually develop wrinkles and creases from repetitive movements like raising and lowering the eyebrows, coupled with collagen and elastin loss. BOTOX smooths over “worry lines,” helping you appear younger and more relaxed. We typically administer 10 to 20 units of BOTOX into the forehead muscles to achieve the desired results.

How many units of BOTOX for 11 lines?

Eleven lines, also known as glabellar lines, are the two vertical lines (or three, or one) that form between your eyebrows as you age. Similar to forehead lines, they are caused by repeated muscle movements such as squinting, frowning, and concentrating. Eleven lines can unintentionally leave you looking sad or angry, but BOTOX can help you look smoother and more refreshed. Most patients require 10 to 30 units of BOTOX to treat their 11 lines.

How many units of BOTOX for crow’s feet?

Crow’s feet result from years of laughing, squinting, sun exposure, and the natural aging process. Lines that develop around the eyes are generally smaller and not as deep as forehead lines, which means fewer units of BOTOX are required. Although every patient varies, we typically use 9 to 10 units of BOTOX per side to treat crow’s feet.
