Avéli™ Cellulite Treatment

We see many women from Troy, Delmar, and throughout Albany County, NY, who are frustrated by cellulite. Even those who are fit experience these unsightly dimples. They often form on the thighs and buttocks and are practically impossible to get rid of on your own. At his Latham, NY, practice, Dr. Jeffery Rockmore offers a safe, effective solution called Avéli that can empower you. This FDA-cleared, minimally invasive treatment smooths away cellulite—dimple by dimple—by addressing its cause beneath the skin.

What Causes Cellulite?

We all have fibrous bands (septa) that tether the skin to the underlying tissue. When these bands lose their elasticity or shrink, they squeeze the surrounding fat and create cellulite dimples. Cellulite is more common in women than men because women have thinner skin and more fat distribution in the thighs and buttocks.

What Is the Avéli Cellulite Treatment?

Avéli is a minimally invasive treatment performed with a specialized handpiece that has a long thin probe with a tiny light, a hook, and a retractable cutting device at the end. The probe is inserted under the skin and moved to the targeted dimple illuminated by the light beneath the skin. Next, the associated septa are located with the hook. The dimple is drawn down toward the body when the targeted septa are hooked. The blade then snips the septa, freeing the skin. The dimple immediately smooths away.

Am I a Good Candidate for Avéli?

Candidates for this treatment are women who want to reduce the appearance of individual cellulite dimples on their buttocks or thighs. During your consultation, Dr. Rockmore will confirm that your concerns are caused by cellulite, not fat or skin laxity. He may recommend addressing areas of excess fat with liposuction or nonsurgical fat reduction with truSculpt®, which also provides moderate skin tightening.

What Are Avéli Treatments Like?

Avéli is an office treatment that takes about an hour to complete. Dr. Rockmore begins by marking the dimples you want to correct while you are standing so they are most noticeable. He then injects a local anesthetic so you won’t feel a thing.

Once you are numb, Dr. Rockmore creates a tiny opening near the targeted dimple and inserts the probe under the skin. He can see the tiny light through the skin and uses it to navigate the probe’s depth and path to each dimple. Once Dr. Rockmore reaches the associated septae, he releases it with a quick snip, and the dimple in the skin goes away instantly. Dr. Rockmore repeats the process until the treatment is complete. He will use the same insertion point whenever possible.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

A single treatment is all that is needed. Dr. Rockmore can treat the thighs and buttocks at the same appointment.

What Should I Expect After My Avéli Treatment?

Expect swelling, bruising, and tenderness in treated areas for the first few weeks. Clear pinkish liquid may leak from the insertion points for the first 24 to 48 hours. Work, school, walking, and other nonstrenuous activities may be resumed 1 or 2 days after treatment. Hold off on strenuous exercise for about 2 to 3 weeks.

When Will I See My Results?

While the Avéli treatment completely releases the offending fibrous bands, temporary swelling and bruising will prevent you from fully appreciating your results. Expect to begin noticing improvement in the skin’s surface within about a month. Full results are reached within 3 months after swelling has disappeared.
