My 5 Favorite Tips for Wrinkle Prevention

Dr. Rockmore

Many of our patients who come in for BOTOX® Cosmetic at my Albany, NY practice love the refreshed results it creates. There’s certainly no denying the product’s increasing popularity, amongst men and women alike. As we mentioned in a previous blog post, “BOTOX injections were up by a whopping 759% in 2015 compared to 2000.”

BOTOX is ideal for smoothing out dynamic wrinkles that have already developed — but there’s also plenty you can do to delay the onset of wrinkles and slow down the aging process. Here are 5 of my favorite tips:

1. Eat and drink for your skin.

It’s easy to improve your skin from the inside out by choosing the right food and drinks. No need to go on a special diet for your skin: The ingredients that are good for your skin are good for the rest of your body, too. The key to great skin is hyrdration! Drinks lots of water and try to stay away from diuretics like coffee. Great wrinkle-preventing foods include yogurt, which contains proteins to strengthen skin. Greek yogurt, which contains less water than regular yogurt, offers a concentrated amount of these proteins. While you’re at it, don’t forget to “eat the rainbow,” too. Brightly-colored produce gets its vibrance from antioxidants, which can lower your skin’s sensitivity to sunlight.

2. Apply a topical vitamin C and keep skin hydrated.

Vitamin C is a proven friend to the skin, aiding in the development of healthy collagen and protecting skin from the harmful rays of the sun. Vitamin C is a common ingredient in many skincare products, from serums and sunscreens to masks and moisturizers. I’d recommend incorporating Skinceuticals CE Ferulic or Phlortin CF into your daily skincare routine as they both offer a high concentration of vitamin C. On labels, you’ll often find it listed as “ascorbic acid,” and the terms are essentially interchangeable. I also recommend investing in a high-quality hyaluronic acid treatment like SkinMedica’s HA5. This product provides you with immediate results and supports the skin’s natural ability to replenish it’s own hyaluronic acid for overall skin health.

3. Treat yourself to a massage.

Massage increases blood flow. When applied to the face, it can help soften, define, and sculpt trouble spots to reduce the look of wrinkles and puffiness. Our massage therapist, Joni, recommends gently rubbing your first 3 fingers in circles, beginning between your brows and working your way outward.

4.  Invest in good makeup.

The right makeup can make you look good now and also stave off future wrinkles. As brands go, I like jane iredale® for its use of skin-loving ingredients that protect and nourish all day long.

5. Try some BOTOX.

In the past, we usually didn’t see patients come in for BOTOX until they were in their 40’s and 50’s. Now the trend is to treat the wrinkles before they are even created. We regularly see patients in their late 20’s and early 30’s who are just starting to see the development of wrinkles. By treating those lines early-on you stop them from developing all together.
