How to Choose the Best Plastic Surgeon for Your Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

A woman's tummy tuck results.

Choosing a surgeon to perform your surgery is one of the biggest and most important steps you’ll take in your surgical journey. The great news is that when it comes to choosing a plastic surgeon to perform your abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) in the Albany, NY, area, you have no shortage of options. But with so many qualified surgeons available in the area, how can you be sure you’re choosing the right one for you?

In this blog post, I’ll share a few tips for choosing the best plastic surgeon to perform your tummy tuck. Follow these guidelines to make sure you not only enjoy the best possible results but also have the best possible experience along the way.

Check for excellent credentials & experience

Safety always comes first. Your surgeon should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the only recognized plastic surgery board and the gold standard for safety and ethics training. Ideally, your surgeon should also be a member of professional medical societies such as The Aesthetic Society. These societies require strong credentials and peer approval to become a member.

Choose a surgeon who has extensive experience performing tummy tucks. Plastic surgeons are qualified to perform a wide range of cosmetic procedures, but that doesn’t mean they perform all of them frequently. It’s best to choose a surgeon who regularly performs tummy tucks and has performed a large number of them. I’ve performed thousands of tummy tucks over my years of practice, and that experience allows me to offer refined skill and artistry to those who trust me with their body contouring transformations.

Look through before-and-after photos

Browse potential surgeons’ online photo galleries and make sure the results you see align with the look you’re going for. If a surgeon doesn’t have an online gallery, ask to see photos during your consultation. As you look through photos, keep an eye out for:

  • Noticeable contouring improvements
  • Well-healed and well-concealed incisions
  • Natural-looking bellybuttons

The before-and-afters you see should make you feel excited about having your own procedure done. To see examples of the results I’ve created, visit my tummy tuck before-and-after photo gallery.

Read real patient reviews—and lots of them

Read verified reviews to get an inside perspective into what it’s like to work with a certain surgeon or practice. Beyond star ratings, read what real patients have to say about their satisfaction with their results, how the surgeon made them feel, and whether they would recommend the practice to a friend or family member. It’s best to read reviews across multiple review platforms to get the most accurate picture. You can find all of my reviews compiled and updated in real time on my reviews page.

Meet for a consultation

Ultimately, the best surgeon is the one who genuinely cares about you and is committed to creating results that make you feel amazing. Meeting for a one-on-one consultation is the best way to get a feel for this.

During this initial meeting, you’ll talk through your treatment plan, go over different tummy tuck techniques, and discuss the possibility of combining your procedure with liposuction or other enhancements if appropriate. Learn more about combining these procedures in our related blog post.

You’ll get a firsthand look at the surgeon’s personality and approach so you can decide whether this is “the one” for you. If that’s the case, you’ll work together to take the exciting first steps of planning your transformation. If not, you’ll continue your search until you find a surgeon you feel absolutely confident in.

Great points. I would add in that after an (full) abdominoplasty do not expect to feel anything like yourself for at least 6 weeks let alone 3 months. Don’t compare yourself to images you see online because so much is photoshopped. Don’t expect to love your results right away because there is swelling. Do expect to be sore. A lot. And stiff, especially if you had contouring done. Doctors performing these might do a ton of them, but they aren’t patients and therefor won’t know really how you feel and the pain associated with it. Having said that once fully recovered you’ll feel great and all the pain/limitations will be worth it. Lastly choose a compassionate surgeon.

My mom mentioned that she is planning on getting a tummy tick procedure, so she needs to find a good plastic surgeon. It is a great idea to check a surgeon’s photo galleries to make sure the results are what you want. I will have my mom do just that so she can find the perfect surgeon for her procedure. https://www.thefergusonclinic.com/tummy-tuck
